I Bought a Used GEA Screw Compressor Package. Then I Learned a $7,000 Lesson.

3. Is the total installed cost of the used unit 50% or less of a new unit? Worth investigating. But verify runtime, service history, and test before install. Pass. The paperwork risk isn’t worth 10-30% savings.

If you answered “yes” to question 1 and “no” to question 2, you’re in the sweet spot. Go buy that used GEA screw compressor package. Have your team run it for 24 hours on a test stand before putting it into production. That 24-hour test catches about 80% of the hidden problems, in my experience.

If you answered “no” to question 1, don’t even look at used equipment without a warranty from a certified dealer. I don’t care how good the price looks. It’s not a deal if it fails in three months.
