GEA HeatWorks Engineering & Service Solutions

From thermal design and custom fabrication to global maintenance and emergency support — we are your partner through the entire equipment lifecycle.

Our Services

Comprehensive support from initial concept through decades of operation.

Custom Engineering & Design

Each project starts with a thermal duty specification review — process temperatures, flow rates, fluid properties, and allowable pressure drops. The design team then runs HTRI or in-house simulation software to optimize plate count, pass arrangement, or tube bundle geometry. Deliverables include thermal datasheets, GA drawings, P&ID integration notes, and material selection reports based on NACE MR0175 or equivalent corrosion standards.

Installation & Commissioning

Trained field engineers supervise installation and perform full commissioning including pressure testing, flow verification, and LMTD performance confirmation against design specifications. We provide commissioning reports suitable for third-party audit.

Preventive Maintenance Programs

Scheduled maintenance preserves thermal efficiency and extends equipment life. Programs include gasket condition inspection, plate cleaning (CIP or manual), fouling factor measurement, and U-value benchmarking against original commissioning data. Typical maintenance intervals are 12-18 months for food-grade applications and 24-36 months for clean HVAC duties. Available as annual or multi-year service contracts.

Emergency Repair & Spare Parts

Unplanned downtime demands fast response. Twenty service centers and regional spare parts warehouses stock critical gaskets, plates, and sealing components for same-day or next-day dispatch. For gasketed plate exchangers, a trained technician can replace gaskets and return a unit to service within 4-8 hours on site, compared to 2-4 weeks for shell-and-tube re-tubing.

Performance Optimization

An installed heat exchanger losing 15-20% of its original U-value due to fouling or incorrect flow distribution does not necessarily need replacement. Performance audits measure actual approach temperatures and pressure drops, then compare them against design-point data. Common remediation actions include plate re-arrangement, addition of turbulence-enhancing inserts, or switching to a more fouling-resistant gasket material — delivering 10-25% efficiency recovery at a fraction of new-equipment cost.

Technical Documentation & Training

Documentation packages include thermal design calculations, material certificates (EN 10204 Type 3.1), hydrostatic test reports, and operation & maintenance manuals. On-site operator training covers routine inspection procedures, gasket condition assessment, and fouling indicator identification — equipping maintenance teams to handle day-to-day monitoring independently.

Our Project Process

A structured approach from initial enquiry to long-term support.

1

Consult

Share your process requirements. Our engineers assess your operating conditions, fluid properties, and performance targets.

2

Design

Thermal simulations determine optimal geometry and material. GA drawings and datasheets are delivered for your review and approval before fabrication begins.

3

Manufacture

Precision fabrication in our ISO 9001-certified facilities with full traceability and pressure testing before shipment.

4

Support

Field commissioning, preventive maintenance, and emergency spare parts — we stay with you for the lifetime of the equipment.

Service Scope and Availability

Field service response time varies by region. In Western Europe and North America, emergency response is typically within 24-48 hours. For Southeast Asia, Middle East, and Africa, response may require 3-5 business days depending on local service center proximity and parts availability.

Maintenance programs for third-party (non-GEA HeatWorks) heat exchangers are available on a case-by-case basis, subject to engineering review. Spare parts for competitor equipment are not stocked and must be sourced separately by the customer.
